We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Kahu Taurima (first 2000 days) team, reporting to the Kahu Taurima Lead Coordinator. This role will be based at our Healthcare premise on Hunter Street in Hawera. 

In this role you will provide safe quality care and deliver a high standard of clinical service to tamariki in their first 2000 days.  This includes health education and promotion activities that will benefit clients, w’ānau and tamariki.  You will assist clients/w’ānau to better utilise health services that will enhance tamariki wellbeing by working collaboratively across Tamariki Ora, Before School Checks and OIS services, ensuring integrated delivery and care.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Carrying out regular tamariki/well child surveillance and screening assessments in the required time frames. 

  • Ensuring the nursing service being offered is appropriate and provided in a culturally safe manner to deliver to the needs of Māori/Tamariki.

  • Promoting education and support activities that empower parents and w’ānau as needed, to maximise their child’s developmental potential and health status.

  • Ensure documentation and reports are provided and updated when appropriate, including updating and recording of client information on the patient management system.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Hold a Registered Nurse scope of practice with no restrictions or be a Registered Comprehensive Nurse who has Child Health/Well Child Nursing Council approved competencies.

  • Hold (or train for) a post-graduate Certificate in Well Child Nursing.

  • Be an independent and qualified vaccinator.

  • Have knowledge or experience in delivering Before School Checks, and willing to train in Tamariki vision and hearing checks.

  • Have a minimum of two years post registration clinical practice. 

  • Have experience working in a GP Clinic.

  • Be computer literate and have proven experience using clinical patient management systems.

  • Hold a current Drivers Licence.
