Ngati Ruanui Tahua Limited is a w’ānau ora service provider in South Taranaki, offering a kaupapa maori holistic approach to all people in our community. Our operations encompass kohanga reo, early childcare education, w’ānau ora and social services along with our clinical practices.

We are currently seeking a Suicide Prevention Officer to join our Health Coach team, reporting to the Health Coach Manager. This role will be based at our premise on Victoria Street in Hawera. 

The ideal applicant will have strong ties to Taranaki and have a desire to promote and support wellbeing and reinforce connections.  One of the focuses of the role will be to ensure w’ānau feel accepted and included by others.  The successful candidate will support the creation of new and existing wairua spaces and align closely with other hauora health partners to deliver this model of care.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Engaging and maintaining strong relationships and linkages with iwi/hapu, w’ānau, agencies and organisations.

  • Maintaining awareness of emerging issues in suicide prevention for Māori. 

  • Having a deep understanding of Tuuramarama ki te Ora Maori Suicide Strategy and the ability to apply that as a framework to the mahi. 

  • Co-designing, developing, and delivering health promotion projects alongside w’ānau, hapu and communities.

  • Have a deep and broad community knowledge, knowing who to connect with and what resources are available.

  • Have a knowledge and understanding of w’ānau ora service delivery and challenges affecting mental health and wellbeing for Māori.

  • Have outstanding communication and people skills.

  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
